Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad: What to Know Before You Go
Post Summary: Plan a Trip on the Historic Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Words can not describe accurately enough just how majestic and grand are the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Some of Colorado’s most jaw-dropping sights are in its southwestern corner. I first visited this part of Colorado with my family when I was 16 years old and I remember telling myself on that trip, “I WILL move here one day”. Well, I have yet to permanently relocate to Colorado, but I sure do visit as often as possible. In 2019, Randy and I took an epic Colorado national park road trip and during our visit we spent…

Backpacking the Blue Lakes Trail: A Hiker’s Guide
Backpacking the Blue Lakes Trail in Colorado has been on our bucket list for years. This was a trail that we tried to do a couple of years ago when we visited Southwest Colorado during July of 2019. Unfortunately, there was too much snow that year and the trail was not accessible at that time. But over the last couple of years, we kept seeing pictures posted of this incredible trail and knew that we had to make it back to Southwest Colorado one day just for this trail. And this past Labor Day Weekend, we finally decided to make it happen! We spent about 16 hours in the car…

A Quick Guide to Colorado National Monument
Post Topic: Things to do in Colorado National Monument Colorado National Monument is located right outside of Grand Junction, Colorado. Although it’s located in Colorado, it is much more similar to Utah in scenery & geological features. I honestly think Colorado National Monument was wrongfully placed in Colorado and should actually be found in Utah. But maybe that’s part of the reason that this place is so special. The national monument is made up of many different canyons, a couple of the bigger and noteworthy canyons are Monument Canyon, Ute Canyon, and Red Canyon. Just about everywhere you look in the park, you’ll see magnificent views of red rock canyons.…

Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park is one of those national parks that keeps pulling me back. I’ve been to Rocky Mountain a total of five times — more than I’ve been to any other national park. I am always in awe of its sheer beauty and grandeur. Every other time I have visited, it’s been during the summer. But this was the first time I have visited in the winter. And it’s definitely just as spectacular in the winter — maybe more. Rocky Mountain is home to some of the most striking mountain landscapes in the U.S. and when these peaks are blanketed with snow they are incredible. My favorite activity…

Off-Roading in the San Juan Mountains
The historic San Juan Mountains in Colorado were a prime mining location back in the early 1800s to 1900s. Because of the local mining industry, there is an extensive dirt road network that connects many passes and basins in the area. Today, these dirt roads have become a popular off-roading experience for tourists and locals alike. A popular off-roading route is the Alpine Loop, which connects Ouray, Silverton, and Lake City. Due to its popularity, there are many Jeep and ATV rental options in these towns. We rented our Jeep from a local hotel business outside of Ouray. The total price for a two-door Jeep rental came out to about…
